The verdict

Pick Grok Bot if you want a small team of named, long-lived Bots that keep logins and files on one always-on cloud computer and run on schedules. Pick ChatGPT Work if you already pay for ChatGPT and want finished documents, spreadsheets and presentations, a model picker, and tasks triggered by Gmail, Slack or GitHub. Pick Claude if you already pay for Claude and want one conversation that decides when to run a task, with each cloud task in its own temporary sandbox.

Two of the names people search for have changed. OpenAI's help center says ChatGPT agent is no longer available and points to ChatGPT Work. Anthropic announced on September 16, 2026 that Claude Cowork and chat are merging into one Claude, rolling out to Pro and Max first; Team and Enterprise keep Cowork separate for now. This page compares the current products.

It is a documentation comparison. We have not run the same task in all three, and none of the vendors publishes usage allowances in comparable units, so there is no quality or cost-per-task ranking here.

Pick Grok Bot if you want standing teammates

Grok Bot is built around Bots you keep: each has a name, a job, its own conversation and memory, and Bots run in parallel, message each other and share context in group chats. They all work on one persistent cloud computer, so a login you complete once is available to every Bot, and work continues when your laptop is closed.

That shared computer is also the caution. The docs say Bots on an account are not a security boundary: any Bot can use a session another Bot signed into, while isolation between users is strict. Access comes with a Cursor plan or a linked SuperGrok subscription, with a weekly allowance and optional on-demand billing, and Cursor chooses the model. Pick ChatGPT Work if you want finished deliverables

OpenAI describes Work as an agent for longer, multi-step work: it can research a topic, analyze information, or create a document, spreadsheet, presentation, report or Site. You pick the model, Work follows the same usage structure as Codex, and Codex sits beside it in the desktop app for software work. Event-triggered tasks can start from a new Gmail message, a Slack channel message or GitHub pull request activity, on Plus and higher plans.

On web and mobile, Work runs in the cloud and cannot reach files on your computer; the desktop app can use local files and apps with your permission. If you used ChatGPT agent before, its help article now says it is no longer available and points to Work.

Pick Claude if you want one conversation that decides

In the new Claude experience you ask in any conversation and Claude decides whether a request needs a quick answer or a task, which it can run in the cloud and hand back as documents, spreadsheets or presentations. Anthropic's architecture overview says each cloud session gets its own sandbox, created when the session starts and destroyed when it ends, that it cannot reach private network addresses, and that connector tokens never enter it. Local files, the built-in browser and computer use work only while Claude Desktop is open. Scheduled tasks run in the cloud with no device online.

Anthropic says Cowork is on all paid plans (Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise). The merged experience is rolling out gradually to Pro and Max, and accounts that move over cannot switch back to separate Chat and Cowork options.

Test them on the same task

If you are choosing between two of these, give each the same frozen document and the same brief, score the results against an answer key you wrote first, and record setup time, run time, review time and the usage each run consumed. Quick answers

Is ChatGPT agent still available?

No. OpenAI's help article for ChatGPT agent now says it is no longer available and points to ChatGPT Work for longer, multi-step tasks and finished deliverables, and to the cloud browser for supported browser workflows.

Is Claude Cowork gone?

It is being folded into Claude. Anthropic announced on September 16, 2026 that Cowork and chat are merging into one Claude, rolling out to Pro and Max plans over several weeks. In the new experience there is no Cowork mode to pick: you ask in any conversation. Team and Enterprise organizations keep chat and Cowork separate for now, and Anthropic says Enterprise admins will get at least 30 days' notice.

Which of the three is cheapest?

By entry price, Grok Bot comes with Cursor Pro at $20 a month and Claude Pro is $20 billed monthly. ChatGPT's pricing page offers limited Work access on Free and Go in the desktop app and expanded access on Plus. None of the three publishes its allowance in comparable units, so there is no honest cost-per-task comparison; run the same task in each and read the usage meter.

Can I bring my ChatGPT or Cowork setup into Grok Bot?

There is no official importer in the Grok Bot docs. The official Marketplace lists Import Bot, a third-party template by Shub Gaur that says it brings setups from Claude Cowork, Codex, ChatGPT, OpenClaw and Hermes into Grok Bot. We have not tested it. Moving the written brief by hand always works.

Which one is the most secure?

They draw the boundary in different places. Grok Bot gives each user one dedicated cloud computer, isolated from other users, that all of that user's Bots share, so Bots are not a boundary from each other. Claude runs each cloud session in its own temporary sandbox that never holds connector tokens. ChatGPT Work relies on approvals for important actions plus workspace permission controls. In all three, the permissions you grant matter more than the product.
