The short answer

Grok Bot works with Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive and Sheets through plugins you add from Connect Apps and authorize in your browser. Gmail can search, read, draft, send and label mail in one connected mailbox. On a company Google account, an admin may first need to mark the app named Grok as trusted. Keep drafts on until you trust a Bot's email.

This page draws on Cursor's help pages, the official docs and the changelog as of October 7, 2026, plus Cursor staff replies on the forum, which we attribute and have not reproduced. We have not connected a mailbox ourselves.

Connect Gmail and the other Google plugins

Each Google service is its own plugin, and each uses the Google account you authorize; it can do only what that account can already do. Cursor's help says Grok Bot signs in to Google as Grok, not Cursor, which matters when you look for it in Google's security settings later. Our plugins and MCP guide covers the general install flow.

Documentation: Cursor help: connect plugins (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, Google admin approval) ↗ Cursor help: how-tos (reconnect a plugin) ↗ Grok Bot changelog (Gmail changes in 0.53 to 0.68.1) ↗

  1. Open Connect Apps in the sidebar, or follow the Connect card a Bot shows in chat.
  2. Add Gmail. Since 0.63.0 the Google sign-in starts right away.
  3. Choose the Google account in your browser and approve access within about 10 minutes. If the app says Waiting for authorization, choose Reopen.
  4. Confirm Gmail shows under Installed and is authorized; since 0.67.0 connected Google accounts show their email address rather than default.
  5. Repeat for Google Calendar, Drive or Sheets only if a task needs them.
  6. Give a first read-only task, such as the brief at the end of this page, before allowing anything to be sent.

If your Google Workspace admin has to approve it

A company Google account can stop the connection before Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets or Slides finishes signing in. If Google says your admin needs to review Grok, request access if the button is offered and wait for approval before choosing Authorize again. Access blocked means Google refused the sign-in, often because Grok is not on the allowlist or third-party apps are blocked. Cursor's help says changing browsers or linking again does not clear an admin block.

That Google approval is separate from a Cursor team admin's plugin controls: a plugin marked Disabled by team admin is turned back on in Cursor, not in Google.

Documentation: Cursor help: connect plugins (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, Google admin approval) ↗

  1. In the Google Admin console, open Security, then Access and data control, then API controls.
  2. Open App access control, then Manage third-party app access.
  3. Add the app named Grok; if search does not find it, use the client ID from the blocked page or the admin review email.
  4. Set Grok to Trusted for the people who use Grok Bot, then ask them to choose Authorize again.

Drafts, sending and send-as

When a Bot writes an email, the docs say the chat can show an editable draft: review the recipients and body, then choose Send email or Discard. Recent releases filled in the details. Since 0.62.0 a Bot sends to the recipients it names rather than a saved draft's original ones. Since 0.68.0 drafts can go out from a verified Gmail send-as address, with a From picker, and Gmail draft cards include your signature. In 0.68.1 Bots can send formatted emails with headings, bold text and lists, and a Send cut off by Stop still goes out.

Version 0.64.0 added Disable drafts for this Bot on draft cards, after which that Bot sends directly. Keep drafts on, and add an Ask first rule for sending email, until you have watched a Bot get several emails right. See permission boundaries.

Google Workspace on a team

On a Team Bot, a plugin that signs in with an account uses the account of whoever is talking to the Bot, so each teammate connects their own Google account and the Bot never lends one person's mailbox to another. In a shared conversation such as a Slack thread, it asks before using your connector. There is no Google Chat connector yet; a Cursor staff member said on September 30 that the team is looking at one. See our Team Bots guide.

A safe first Gmail task

Start read-only and small: one label or one day of mail, with drafts and no changes. The same pattern underpins the morning brief recipe, which adds the calendar. This brief is our template, not a tested routine.

Try this brief

Using the connected Gmail, read only messages in [label or inbox] received since [date and time, time zone]. Return a digest grouped into Needs me, Can wait and Noise, with sender, subject, a one-line reason and a link for each. Draft replies only for messages in Needs me and leave them as drafts. Do not send, archive, label, delete or unsubscribe from anything. If you cannot read the mailbox, say so and stop.

Quick answers

Can Grok Bot send email from my Gmail account?

Yes, once the Gmail plugin is connected. Cursor's help says Gmail can search and read mail, draft and send, and apply labels on the connected mailbox. By default a Bot shows an editable draft card that you send or discard yourself. Since 0.68.0 (October 5) drafts can go out from a verified Gmail send-as address, with a From picker when you have more than one.

Can I connect my work and personal Gmail at the same time?

No. Cursor's help says Gmail connects one mailbox at a time: to use another, disconnect the current one and authorize the other. Every Bot on your account can use the connected mailbox, so disconnect it if a Bot should not.

Why does Google say an admin needs to review Grok?

Your company's Google Workspace has not approved the app yet. Cursor's help says Grok Bot signs in to Google as Grok, not Cursor, and an IT admin approves it in the Google Admin console under Security → Access and data control → API controls → Manage third-party app access, setting Grok to Trusted. A personal Gmail account does not need an admin.

Can Grok Bot add a Zoom link or change Google Meet settings?

No. Cursor's help says the Google Calendar plugin can read calendars you can see, create and update events, check free time and respond to invitations, but cannot change Google Meet settings or add a Zoom link, because Google's Zoom add-on is not available to the plugin. Add the Zoom link to the event yourself.
